The story so far..............
‘Danzone’ is a fresh and exciting community dance school
based Nythe and Dorcan, founded and run by Principal Clare Jones.
Danzone has grown rapidly and in 2013 celebrated its 10th birthday. Having
started with 1 class and a handful of students, Clare is now proud to say she
has 150 students, attending over 20 different classes, 6 day a week. In addition to the normal classes, Danzone has
performed at ‘The home of dance’ at Sadlers Wells in the West End, the New
Theatre Oxford, the Wyvern Theatre, Commonweal Theatre, the Old Town Bowl and numerous public
events including OxFest, school and church fetes, and other public events.
Danzone’s philosophy is simple – Dance should be available to all walks of life, and students of all shapes and sizes, regardless of whether they have any previous experience. Whilst there is a focus on academic achievement, at the core the emphasis is on fun, exercise, and developing confidence and social skills. There is no moment more special than a parent watching their child performing in a choreographed routine in front of an audience – the value of this experience to the student is priceless, and so much more meaningful than exams and certificates.
The current age range of students is 3 – 50+ Classes are available in freestyle street jazz, ballet, tap, contemporary, commercial, musical theatre, and Zumba for both kids and adults. Danzone also run after-school clubs in a number of local primary schools and sessions in local nurseries and play schools.
Clare attended Swindon Dance and continued her training in Bristol and is fully qualified in American Jazz, RSA Exercise to Music, Zumba, Zumba Kids and Street Fit. She teaches all disciplines, and runs the school with a teaching faculty that includes Jessica-Jo Marshall and Jemma Turland. All members of the team share Clare’s commitment and passion, and always strive to help develop students to achieve the best they can.
